Janine Huizenga (1958) studied Photography and Audiovisual and Theatre Design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Amsterdam from 1984 to 1989.
She works mainly with photography and participated with graphic designers in collective projects such as 'Live Magazine' in De Balie, 1992; 'Beeld tegen Beeld' (Image to Image), a retrospective exhibition of designgroup 'Wild Plakken' in the Central Museum of Utrecht, 1993.
As a photographer she was involved with the exhibition '010101,...' in the Soros Centre for Contemporary Arts, Bukarest. During 1994 she worked as a general assistant and performer in 'Sweeney's Lunacy', a theatre- and video spectacle together with the American performance artist Joan Jones, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Toneelgroep Amsterdam, as part of the 'Holland Festival'.
In 1996 she composed the slide show of the theatre performance of musician Harry de Wit.
As a visual artist she exhibited her work in W139, Amsterdam; at 'Tussen Beeldende Kunst en Fotografie' (Between Visual Arts and Photography), 1990; Arti et Amicitiae Amsterdam, 'The Private Eye', 1991; Fondation la Dalle Amsterdam, 'Posities' (solo), 1994.
Until 2009, Janine worked as Creative Director at Waag Society. In February 2008, she moved to Preston, England to start a cultural mapping project at the University of Central Lancashire. She now works as a freelancer from her home in France.
