De Wegwijzer: aan de slag met burgerwetenschap

How do you conduct research into social issues together with citizens and scientific researchers? In 'De Wegwijzer: aan de slag met burgerwetenschap' (The guide: getting started with citizen science), you will find information, tips and things to take into account. It is a practical guide intended for libraries (both public and affiliated with a research institution) and social organisations that are involved in or want to get involved in citizen science.

Citizen science is a form of scientific research in which people – with and without a scientific background – actively contribute to one or more phases of a research process. This often involves questions that arise from people's own lives and touch on social issues such as health, the living environment, digitisation or inclusion. Whereas traditional science sometimes operates at a distance, citizen science connects with the experiences, concerns and insights of citizens.

Do you work at a library or social organisation? Or are you a (citizen) scientist or otherwise interested in or involved in citizen science? De Wegwijzer: aan de slag met burgerwetenschap helps you on your way and provides tips for your citizen science project.

Science in the Cloud

Universities and libraries are increasingly collaborating with citizens to create, analyse and disseminate knowledge. This collaboration increasingly involves the use of citizen science: research conducted with or by citizens. The online environment is an important place where universities, libraries and various groups of citizen scientists can connect with each other.

In the project 'Science in the Cloud' Waag Futurelab, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, KennisCloud, KB National Library and OBA investigated how they could organise citizen science using the online KennisCloud platform. The insights gained from this project into the collaboration between researchers, citizen scientists and social organisations have been compiled in De Wegwijzer: aan de slag met burgerwetenschap.
