On Saturday 21 September Waag's Fablab is open during the Amsterdam Urban Innovation Week.
Sustainable cities encompass more than physical flows. A city is also a living web of people, shared connections, communities and citizen initiatives. Maps of places, events or festivals you’ve visited contribute to this living web. Apps like Facebook, Instagram and Foursquare all (automatically) keep track of the places you’ve been.
Nonetheless, these maps of your ‘recent places’ don’t really tell us a story. Our personal stories about where we’ve been, where we want to go and which memories we share are being left out.
During 'Stadexpeditie Nieuw Amsterdam', Waag invites you to tell your personal story and create beautiful data graphics that you can print on your t-shirt, dress or bag. How? By selecting the places that you share special memories with or that are either way important to you. You can think of selections like:
- Where do you want to travel?
- What places did you have sex?
- What are your favourite spots in the world?
In the historical Waag building we’ll transform this into a graphic that you can print right on the spot! Fablab Amsterdam will use a lasercutter to print them into earrings. In our Theatrum Anatomicum you can also print them with the vinyl cutter and iron them on your t-shirt (or possible something else).
When?
You can drop in whenever you want on Saturday September 21, from 14.00 hours till 17.00 hours. Please note: last round of prints is 16.00 hrs. Bring your own t-shirt to print on and we will take care of the rest.
